Review: Static-X – Wisconsin Death Trip (25th Anniversary Corrosive Edition)

Static-X

Wisconsin Death Trip (25th Anniversary Corrosive Edition)

Otsego Entertainment Group

It’s rare for an artist to gain wide appeal within their genre but also take on the persona of also having a cult following. When Static-X announced themselves with their Debut ‘Wisconsin Death Trip’ back in 1999 they soon gained both. The album, met with both critical and fan acclaim wasn’t just a great record, it was an important influence on how industrial and nu metal developed. Lead at the time by enigmatic lead vocalist, the legendary Wayne Static, the group became a real force without ever losing their more underground charm. Now with single ‘Push It’ already achieving gold, soon to be platinum status the timing is perfect for the 25th anniversary of such an iconic debut album to be celebrated. This is no simple set of re-masters though, it’s a comprehensive package that also includes demos, alternative versions and rare tracks. In short it’s a fans dream that also serves as a fantastic introduction for the less familiar. The extras also include never seen before images and reimagined artwork. The music stands as tall as ever, as unique as it always was. It’s a testament to the writing how fresh it still feels a quarter of a decade later. The reworking has been done with real care and attention to detail. You feel taking on such a project was a bit like trying to square a circle, the end result is superb.
