Cleaning your Beauty Blender: The Microwave Hack
Beauty Blenders have become a must have of all makeup lovers out there. Used to apply foundation, contouring the face etc. it’s no surprise these little sponges get dirty very quickly and honestly? They are a pain in the arse to clean. I decided to try this trend that’s been sweeping the internet; The Microwave Cleaning Hack! Here is what my sponge looked before:
You will need:
A dirty beauty blender
A microwave
A microwave safe cup, mug or bowl.
Soap and water!
- I used simple hand soap gel for mine but for best results use a soap that tackles grease such as washing up liquid. I also used a bowl which I’m referring to in the steps.
Squirt a bit of the soap into the bottom of the bowl, fill with water and give it a little mix
Put one dirty beauty sponge in the bowl and put in the microwave for 1 minute
Take out of the microwave, let the water cool down (BE CAREFUL!!) and rinse/squeeze out the excess dirty water
The blender came out about half clean, this is probably due to the sponge floating. It looked like this:
REPEAT the process one more time and you will get a very clean sponge like this:
Mine had also expanded in size so it took a day or two to shrink back down to its original size/density. If you compare it to a brand new blender then the colour wasn’t perfect but it really is very very clean! I would defiantly recommend this way of cleaning as its quick, efficient and saves water. Heres a comparison of before and after for colour!
