Lindsay Schoolcraft
Harrowing
Self released
There’s a sweet spot that lies somewhere between various elements of metal and modern classical that is ghost like. You know it’s there, it can give you goosebumps and yet it is undefinable – until now. Lindsay Schoolcraft somehow has managed to perform witchcraft and given that particular musical fog form. ‘Harrowing’ is certainly hauntingly beautiful but it also has an edge rivalling Death’s scythe. The writing is uniquely Schoolcraft, a meticulous tapestry of sonics formed to help the story telling lyrics. Those lyrics are deeply personal too, sung with fire and passion. The vocals soar ethereally and with crisp clarity. Krista Shipperbottom adds contrast with trademark harsh vox on ‘So Alive’, one of a number of guest appearances giving extra depth where needed. The moods come in waves with dreamy sequences in songs hitting as hard as the more rock out moments, all helped by sympathetic production. Lindsay Schoolcraft has always been synonymous with the highest quality music and ‘Harrowing’ continues that as her finest work to date.
