Virtue In Vain
Nothing Is All I Am (EP)
Self-Release
If you need proof that hard times create hard music, look no further than the latest EP from Welsh metalcore heavyweights Virtue In Vain. Featuring five tracks of caustic, molten-melting metal, Nothing Is All I Am is a release that perfectly captures the current zeitgeist. Dealing with subjects such as panic attacks, anger and self-flagellation, this release has a lyrical bent that’s as weighty as the music within and the two combine to create a sense of something so big and vast it blocks out all natural light. With broad-shouldered riffs and piledriver drums, Virtue In Vain make for a formidable unit and when you factor in some corrosive, paint stripping vocals you have an arresting experience, and one which refuses to be ignored. From the opening blast of ‘Split’ to thoughtful closer ‘The Wilt & I’, the band serve up five songs that come laden with an emotion that hangs upon the listener like an anchor to a drowning man, dragging them down into the darkest recesses of the human psyche. The third and final EP in a triptych, Nothing Is All I Am is both an ending and a pointer towards bigger things.
