Feel The Noize – The Singlez Box – BMG

Gudtime gals and noizy boyz assemble – we got the platform stompin’, fuzzy riffin’, kings of glam rock n’ roll on the turntable. So, will we play Slade bingo? This review mentions a Slade cliché and you tick it off? Like, if you see mention of a festive classic, questionable clothes/hair and renegade spellingz, you yell ‘house!’? Let’s not. But the thing is, with a singles collection, we already know the band and the hits, so there’s nowt new to fill you in on. Probs the best thing to do would be to simply list the tracks featured, and tell you it’s a limited-edition vinyl box set of ten rare 7” singles. And it looks pretty too. But Devo readers deserve more from a review. So then, for the Slade hardcores, it’s obvs gonna be ace. For the more general music lover, we have the spellcheck-bothering songs we know (‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’, ‘Coz I Luv You’ and ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’) and their flipsides. This box set is a dalliance with decades past, from less a band, more a national institution. It’s a fine collection that anyone who cites Slade as their favourite band will be desperate to own.
