Requiem For A Pipe Dream
Reigning Phoenix Music
To say that each of cyHra’s five members bring a wealth of experience to this project would be an understatement. Their various endeavours would fill a weighty tome, so trust me when I say they come loaded with serious pedigree. Of course, musicians are a fickle bunch and putting several “names” together is no sure sign of success and things could either falter or fly. Thankfully, cyHra’s fourth studio album, Requiem For A Pipe Dream, falls very much in the second category and evidences a quintet who’ve found an easy equilibrium. Each performer brings their talents to the party, whilst also leaving room for the others to display theirs, the result being a melodic brand of metal that comes laden with groove. ‘Bleed With Pride’ is the opener and is indicative of cyHra’s approach: combining the punch of a heavyweight boxer with the fancy footwork of a featherweight, the band are a versatile bunch who often throw the listener into a hex with unexpected twists and turns, the quick fire rap vocals on ‘Skin From Bones’ being the kind of surprise in which cyHra specialise. The likes of ‘Ghostbound’ have effortless crossover appeal and chart-bothering potential, meaning Requiem For A Pipe Dream could make cyHra’s wishes a reality.
