Review: Premier Jester – Turn You On

Premier Jester

Turn You On

Self Released

Two things it appears to be ridiculously hard to do – say ‘Premier Jester’ without getting into a tongue-twisted pickle, and accurately explain their sound. Because Premier Jester can be neither pronounced nor categorised. Too manic for metalcore, too death metal to be dance, too clever and sassy with lyrics to be emo, ‘Turn You On’ is bold, banging and a bit of a headfuck. Opening track ‘Slow Dance’ starts with civilised synths but the mask slips within seconds and the song crashes in with a choking yell and crushing waves of keys and drums. ‘PJ Party’ is pure audio violence with occasional electronics breaking up the fight. ‘Sales King’ has a bit of the Don Brocos about it. Influenced by Electric Callboy, Lorna Shore and 3OH!3, Premier Jester hurl out humour over hardcore that makes you bang your head and then hold it in your hands and mutter, ‘What the hell have I just heard????’
