Spreading The Disease
Purgatory Carnival (EP)
Self-Released
If you need proof that hard times create equally violent art, you need look no further than Spreading The Disease. Forging a love of Sabbath and Slipknot into their own form, this Kent-based crew have been demolishing stages since 2014, constantly refining their sound, weeding out the weak until all that’s left is pure skull-crushing metal (think Pantera jamming with Pro-Pain). It makes latest EP, Purgatory Carnival, the ultimate distillation of their sound, a highly flammable four-track affair that threatens to explode at any moment. Introduced by a bassline that bounces like the proverbial bomb, the band get straight down to business with ‘Addicted’, a caustic number that operates with wrecking ball force, swinging from speaker to speaker, intent on causing maximum carnage. Spreading The Disease don’t deal in subtle niceties and, as such aren’t recommended for the faint-hearted, but those who like metal with plenty of bite will find much to sink their teeth into. Whether you are lifting insane weights at the gym or fighting personal demons, with cuts like ‘Warblade’ on your headphones, you’ll plough through any obstacles life might throw your way. The soundtrack to a world perched precariously on the precipice of Armageddon makes Purgatory Carnival the hottest show in town.
