Not frightened to mix things up in new and interesting ways Mimi Barks has been at the pointy end of what has become a bit of a revolution in alternative music. Her metal mashed together with trap style could be a proper mess but thanks to some visionary writing and a seriously edgy delivery everything gels wonderfully well. The key on βThis Is Doom Trapβ is balance. Nothing usurps anything else to the point of diminishing its light. Barks lets the melodies shine while her vocals light a fire that burns with passion. Thereβs a delicious quirkiness to this album that reflects the artistβs nature brilliantly. Itβs a broadly accessible work too with slower passages seductively menacing and harder hitting areas still keeping those beats memorable. Itβs a box full of bangers that will rock in a live environment. Mimi Barks just levelled up, and then some!
