The Sinner Rides Again – Napalm Records

You would be forgiven in thinking upon hearing ‘The Sinner Rides Again’ that it isn’t groundbreaking or necessarily ‘fresh’ however that doesn’t mean it’s not a thematically and expertly put together album in sound and production. You get everything you want and expect from this 9-track release from experts in the field. ‘Sons Of The Sentinel’ is laden with blistering riffs and Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens’ eye-watering high notes. ‘Strike Of The Viper’ is suitably brutal with Owens roaring along with guitars pelting you like thunder. ‘One More Shot Of Glory’ starts off on a sombre note leading you into what is guaranteed to become an anthem bound to have an ocean of fists punching the air in a stadium near you. Stand-out track ‘HYMN 66’ begins with an orchestral intro and is suitably theatrical throughout with each component of the song taking moments of centre stage. The title track ‘The Sinner Rides Again’ is the best example on the album of Owens showcasing his vocal capability and is overall a perfect illustration of classic heavy metal. The fact that the album feels nostalgic but not tired is a testament to the talent and vision behind its creation. Although it has taken one union to disband the result is a formation which allows Downing’s and Owens’ conception of K.K’S Priest to be shared with the world. If you are a fan of classic British heavy metal, this album will undoubtedly be up your street.
