Blacktop Mojo – Self Released

Getting stuck in from the very first note, Devo favourites Blacktop Mojo are a band of brothers on their fourth album and on top of their game. Described by some as ‘Texas Grunge’, others as ‘Carnal Blues’ (is that what you kids are calling it these days???) and by Devo as ‘Really F*cking Good, the vocals are gravelly, full-blooded and quality; the music is sold, polished and groovesome; the songs are full of feeling, ferocity and fun times. ‘Wicked Woman’ crash lands in a ball of sleazy/noisy/guitary flames. ‘Jealousy’ breaks from the pace (slightly) with a cascading chorus of Matt James’ vocals and guitars. ‘Do It For The Money’ is part mellow part massive monster. At some points you want to get up and lose your mind, others nod your head in appreciation, and occasionally leave your listening post for a shower. Majestic.
