One EP – 2AR Music

Do you talk to the radio? It’s company isn’t it! A noisy little capsule that doesn’t judge you and plays good music. Well, most of the time. And those adverts can do one too. But apart from that, radio is a friend. ‘One’ by Black Sky Research can best be described with a similar sentiment. It’s rock music that has been lovingly created and shaped into dreamy yet dark layers telling of the devastation of the end of the world, and heart-breaking thought processes that go with it. ‘One’ is so nicely done it is best listened to through headphones and in a comfy spot where nothing will disturb you for its 20 minutes running time. You feel involved and emotional. Like the radio, the EP doesn’t physically talk back. Spiritually, on the other hand… Sonically ‘One’ is glorious and gorgeous (‘Light Up The Sky’ and ‘Twilight’) choppy and threatening (‘Midnight’) and so rocky it brings tears to your eyes (‘Dawn’ and ‘Transmit’). Lyrically, on the other hand, it’s bloody terrifying and unsettling! We’ve said it before at Devolution and we’ll say it again – 2020 has been a terrible year, but it’s gifted us some fantastic music, and ‘One’ is no exception.
