News: My Ruin Release Protest Anthem ‘When That Man Is Dead And Gone’ + New Lyric Video

“SOME CAUSE HAPPINESS WHEREVER THEY GO, OTHERS WHENEVER THEY GO.”

A person’s legacy is ultimately measured by the stories people tell about them long after they’re gone.

Originally written by Irving Berlin in 1941 as a satirical response to Adolf Hitler during one of the darkest chapters in modern history, “When That Man Is Dead And Gone” remains a striking reminder that authoritarianism is neither new nor inevitable. My Ruins favourite version has always been the legendary recording by Glenn Miller & His Orchestra – and the moment they heard it, they knew that they wanted to resurrect it for their own era. For obvious reasons.

So here it is: their reimagined MY RUIN cover with loud riffs, dark satire and a tongue-in-cheek SWTEVL twist, created in the spirit of democracy, dissent, and unapologetic anti-fascism. It serves as a companion piece to their latest album, Declaration Of Resistance transforming a wartime classic into a modern protest anthem.

The accompanying vintage style Americana artwork depicts an out-of-touch, self-obsessed, reality show president perched atop a patriotic birthday cake while ordinary Americans struggle beneath the weight of economic hardship, political division, and manufactured spectacle. A man slowly fading into oblivion. Think of it as the bands modern-day “Let Them Eat Cake” portrait of a golden age defined by inflation, vanity, grievance politics, gilded excess, and authoritarian cosplay. Nothing says “man of the people” quite like a billion-dollar ballroom and bunker while the country burns – along with his pants and poll numbers.

Comparing Trump to Hitler is not about equating their crimes – it is about recognising warning signs: demagoguery, authoritarianism, propaganda and democratic decay. The band intentionally released the song on June 14, 2026. If America’s 250th birthday celebration is being repackaged as one man’s narcissistic 80th birthday spectacle, consider this their birthday gift from the resistance.
