All Sides Disaster – Self Released

There’s something refreshingly honest about All Sides Disaster the latest acoustic album from Mike McKinnon. It’s full of upbeat pop punk sentiments that just hit home so well. You can imagine McKinnon turning up to a party with his six stringer and some beers and just sounding exactly like he does here. The stark production keeps everything crisp even during those odd little electric moments. The vocals have a lovely natural ‘guy next door’ vibe to them. It’s important on albums like this that there are imperfections, they are the way the singer connects to the listener, through nothing more than showing humanity. This is McKinnon’s trump card and he plays it perfectly. A lot of people can play a guitar and sing but to do it this well while being so understated takes real skill. All Sides Disaster as it turns out is anything but….
