Scene Queen
Metalicious
Hopeless Records
Mixing mutated pop with metal gives this infectious EP a sharper edge than previous releases. It is explorative while retaining core melodic writing. And yes, it’s fun too. The feminist subjects dealt with in the lyrics are thoughtfully written and remain visceral without becoming rants. The really big deal here is the growth shown by Scene Queen. The songs flow well together and are consistently punchy. There’s a strong genre balance too meaning that performed live there’s an opportunity to please a broad audience. You can quite easily imagine the more curious pop fans finding ‘Metalicious’ a gateway into listening to metal, and of course visa versa. The production is slick erring towards clean which keeps any distortion bracketed. This confident release sees an already popular artist hitting their stride in a way that can only see them rise even faster than before.
