With foundations already well and truly laid this was always going to be an important release for Saint Agnes. It’s an examination of their ability to progress while remaining consistent. The great news is that they’ve passed with flying colours on both counts. That lovely dark quirkiness is still there in an expanded form. You get synthy pop vibes mixing with an early NIN era industrial undercurrent. The heart of the writing is still rock though, it underpins everything. Moods swing to and fro like a pendulum showing just how skilled the writing is. Kitty manages to be surprising while staying familiar. Her vocals are full of little nuances that add so much to each song. Her timing, tempo and musical empathy are quite brilliant. This isn’t a record that grows on you, it’s an instant earworm that just grabs you and won’t let go. And you just know these songs will kill it live, all of them, there isn’t any filler here. This is cutting edge honed to perfection.
