Knife Bride
sorry about the plague (EP)
Self-Released
I first caught Knife Bride supporting HANABIE. back in 2023 and their set that night left an indelible scar on my memory bank. The intervening years have found them touring with heavyweights like SKYND and Vukovi, all whilst sharpening a unique sound they call “Nu-Gothika”. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kate Bush and Bring Me The Horizon, latest EP, sorry about the plague finds them serving up five cinematic cuts that delve deep into the darkest recesses of human nature. Don’t let the album’s lowercase title fool you; there’s nothing unassuming about this Brighton bunch, they have an unshakable belief in this monster they’ve created and as such this EP gets up close and personal. A prime example being opener ‘alone at the altar’, a song that veers between dense slabs of sonics and light, airy passages and stitches them together with a sublime melody. It’s an approach that renders ‘Crucify’ (and the whole release) a certified earworm, and despite lyrics that detail downfall and self-destruction, you’ll find yourself singing the chorus at the most inopportune moments. sorry about the plague will find Knife Bride’s star in the ascendency and their charms spreading like a blessing.
