Review: Corrosion Of Conformity – Good God / Baad Man

Corrosion Of Conformity

Good God / Baad Man

Nuclear Blast Records

From the second Good God? / Final Dawn blasts in, you’re immediately struck by how utterly alive this album feels. Good God / Baad Man features the kind of production that puts you right in the eye of the storm. You feel as though you’re sitting in the middle of the jam room, with the band literally exploding around you. Explosive is a great word to use to describe this dirty, unwashed beast of an album. In between chat and excitable hollers, stay in the mix. The overall feeling is of a band having the time of their lives and not giving a fuck about what anyone thinks. You Or Me drives like a thief who’s just robbed a bank. Gimme Some Moore is the soundtrack to the inevitable police chase afterwards. One of the many jewels in the crown of this album is the pure Sabbath worship of The Handler. Here, COC’s heritage and collective soul really shine. Run For Your Life basks in a psychedelic desert glow. It seems designed for a very lost weekend and the subsequent comedown. The titular Baad Man is a perfect party starter anthem. It manages to be the best song Clutch never wrote. Dripping with bad decisions and sardonic wit, it’s as infectious as an epidemic.

Overall, it’s fair to say that this is exactly the album you need in your life right now, whether you know it or not. AI couldn’t recreate this record if it tried. The humanity and pure plug-in-and-blast aesthetic could never be replicated. This over-produced, over-packaged world needs to hear this and remember how to rock properly. Asleep On The Killing Floor is pure dirt in musical form, and it fills the listener with reckless abandon. The bluesy barroom licks of Handcuff County are 100% authentic. They possess the kind of heart you can only acquire through decades of living the life. As the blissed-out hallucinations of Forever Amplified give way to a gnarly rock n rolling groove, you are under no illusions. You won’t hear a better rock or metal album this year (maybe Down could try). This is a fair warning, listeners: you are about to get well and truly served!
