S8nt Elektric
Off The Edge
Long Branch Records
‘Their goal is to be the band that glorifies growth instead of destruction, and courage instead of comfort.’ Literally got no idea what S8nt Elektric sound like yet but from this one line in their press release they are now my spirit animal and shall henceforth be known as ‘One of the Bands Jo Wright is Currently Obsessed With’. Best have a listen then… Vocalist Bri has a bubble gum pop voice but she’s spitting bullets here. With each song inspired by an emotion or an event, and taking the band right back into the moment when the play it, ‘Off The Edge’ uses memories – good and bad – to make music. Great punky, metal, poppy music with guitar solos that range from sounding raging to sorrowful. Like its composers, ‘Off The Edge’ refuses to play it safe. ‘You only live once’ and all those ‘One life, live it’ slogans have always been shit. They mean well, but… y’know. ‘Off The Edge’ on the other hand – the album and the rule to live by – sound really fucking good. If No Doubt, Slash and Linkin Park had a baby, this is them.
