Review: The Pale White – Inanimate Objects Of The 21st Century

The Pale White

Inanimate Objects of the 21st Century

End of the Wall Recordings

Two brothers Adam and Jack Hope from Newcastle, armed with their guitar and drums are set to release their third album β€˜Inanimate Objects Of The 21st Century’. The name and album is inspired by the current culture of our ever evolving technology and with humanity trailing behind, struggling to keep up with what that means while holding a sense of longing and nostalgia. The record kicks off with the melodic β€˜Moth In The Headlights’ and has that unmistakable British Alt Rock/Indie vibe that never goes out of style. It is somewhat reminiscent of late 90s early 2000s Blur. β€˜Float Away’ brings more energy to the table instrumentally with the guitars really shining alongside Adams’ soulful vocals. Named after the world’s oldest temple complex, β€˜Gobekli Tepe’ opens with distorted singing which sounds almost like ancient chanting with a repetitive drum beat building in intensity to a powerful crescendo which creates an aura of mystique. β€˜Absolute Cinema’ , which is one of their single releases, is described as β€œlove letter to the big screen”. The brothers hope to remind people β€œhow important film is to our culture” in the modern age. The song is exciting and a little all over the place with how it chops and changes pace. It is a real toe tapper as well as an earworm! β€˜Carpe Diem’ is a slow, melancholic tune with sombre yet soothing vocals. β€˜Mannequin’ is beautifully melodic and continues on that melancholic vibe but feels upbeat at the same time with a killer hook.  β€˜All I Have To Do Is Dream’ closes the album and is a stripped back and slowed down cover of the hit song by The Everly Brothers. There are no filler tracks on this album. It is eclectic, imaginative and ambitious. Round of applause for the Hope brothers, you knocked it out the park!
