Live Review: Jinjer and supports, 02 Kentish Town Forum, London

After taking a break from music Textures rebooted in 2023 and tonight we see what the world had been missing. This is a band that does what it says on the tin. The six piece play progressive metal infused with nods to the greats of the past but also have a healthy dose of modernism. Their set whizzes by in the blink of an eye leaving you thinking that if these are the openers how good will the rest of the night be?

Where the previous act leant towards lush soundscapes Unprocessed produce a sound which is much more direct. The metalcore framework of their music is clad in precision and sheer enthusiasm. The sheer technical ability is at times audacious but above it is quality song writing. This is a band that know how far to go without over indulging just for the hell of it. This is clearly a band ready to make the next big step up.

We’ve had two big performances already tonight but you get to see and hear why Jinjer are A list material right now as soon as they open with ‘Duel’. This is a group in beast mode. The music is intricate and innovative, we know that, but it also has mood and soul that conveyed so brilliantly live gives you goose bumps. Drums, bass and guitar are all perfectly in synch but sound organic not machinelike. The way these instruments are played will have the musicians in the audience cooing with approval. And then we have Tatiana Schmayluk, a vocalist that vocal coaches toast regardless of their background. Tonight she is simply next level showing off the full range of her exceptional talent. While the growls and screams hit the spot it’s her cleaner vox that resonates the most. Here she is perfection itself. This is a set that is magical, an escape for every fan in the room, and a reminder of how important and freeing music is in the world.
