Review: Urne – Setting For To The Sky

Urne

Setting For To The Sky

Spinefarm Records

It feels like Urne have had a rapid rise on the world stage recently with several high-profile supports and tours under their belts. They have been on the ones-to-watch list for quite a while now, though, so is this the album that makes good on that promise?

On opener Be Not Dismayed, the Machine Head influence is put front and centre, and Joe seems to have been working hard on his vocal style, and there are a lot more colours in his palette. Also, the addition of a second guitar line gives the band so much more scope to spread their wings. Weeping To The World once again showcases this vocal dexterity, with crooning lows and tortured shouts, both executed with amazing precision alongside powerhouse drumming and Angus’s now world-class riffing. Recent single The Spirit Alive really is where you realise that Urne are making 2026 their year. This is a total metal anthem that you know will be sung along to with fists high in the air!

Other highlights include the bloodthirsty battery of Towards The Harmony Hall, the beautiful Breathe with its stately, glorious strings by metal world’s favourite cellist, Jo Quail, and of course Mastodon’s Troy Sanders making a roaring appearance on lead off single, Harken The Waves. As the album closes you are left in no uncertain terms that Urne could not have put more strength, energy and passion into this bid for the big leagues, and we’re not betting against them getting there.

This is made for the main stage, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Urne’s star ascending beyond all expectations.
