Review: Lord Of The Lost – Opvs Noir Vol 2

Lord Of The Lost

Opvs Noir Vol 2

Napalm Records

Many people can hear the connection between metal and classical music. It’s at its most obvious in symphonic metal when the big operatic vocals are emphasising the fact. And after all composers such as Liszt, Beethoven and Paganini were the rock and roll stars of their day, including rock star behaviour.  But with Lord Of The Lost things are a bit more – immersive. Here on ‘Opvs Noir Vol 2’ (even the name reflects the classics) we get a band embracing the full grandeur and spirit of the past but bringing it bang up to date thanks to their astute writing. It’s a genre spanning work with a core in rock and gothic. You feel like you are temporarily in another world, one it has to be said full of positivity. There are full on headbanging moments and also times where you just sway to the beat. Quieter passages are filled with keyboards and strings weaving everything together like golden threads. We also get some fine guest appearances by Infected Rain, Käärijä, IAMX and Anna Brunner. Lord Of The Lost have been making giant strides forward in recent times and this album is another one.
