When Rivers Meet
Addicted To You
One Road Records
Despite hurtling towards their tenth anniversary, husband and wife duo When Rivers Meet are showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, their fourth full length Addicted To You evidences a new sense of purpose and that explains the sudden arrival of the opening (and title) track. Like a splash of cold water to a sleeping face, it arrives without warning and immediately shocks the listener from their slumber. It’s a song that finds the band widening their musical palette to include new sonic textures, now colouring their canvas with bold strokes and bright hues. While many of their peers have a musty air and hark back to some mythical age of the blues, there’s a freshness and dynamism to cuts such as ‘Preacher’ which finds the band’s sights set firmly on the future, but long time fans needn’t worry because they haven’t completely torn up their roots as the Zeppelin-esque ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ attests. Yet the overall vibe of this album is contemporary one and with Addicted To You in their arsenal, When Rivers Meet are wending their way towards a bright future.
