Our North
Everyone For Themselves (EP)
Self-Released
With a sound that feels as if it was forged in a fiery furnace, it’s quite apt that metalcore heavyweights Our North hail from the Steel City. Sheffield’s reputation for metallurgy and steel-making seems to have seeped into their collective bones and they’ve produced a sophomore EP in Everyone For Themselves that’s equally tough and hard wearing. However, the band aren’t resting on past glories and are on a continual quest to move their sound forwards and these six songs incorporate hip hop and trap vibes to give them a contemporary edge, and it’s a move which elevates them above their peers. It’s these elements which make Our North a multifaceted affair and while there are plenty of shouty sections and beefy breakdowns, there’s also trippy interludes and sing-along choruses. It is an approach which gives each track a unique identity, from the vast soundscape that is ‘Something To Be’ to claustrophobic closer ‘We Come To Life’, Everyone For Themselves is a wheel in constant motion. With two extended plays under their belt, it’s time for Our North to set their compass towards an album…and it’s a destination we can’t wait for them to reach.
