Review: Yungold – Force Of Habit

Yungold

Force Of Habit

Self-Released

When rock music starts to feel staid and you think you’ve heard all it has to offer, a band comes along to reignite your interest, and such a group arrives in the shape of Yungold. Since forming in 2022 the band have been hurtling towards a bright future with foot firmly on the (fuzz) pedal. If proof were ever needed to the band’s drive and desire, you need look no further than opening blast ‘Centre of the Earth’. As befits a debut EP, there’s no time to waste and Yungold deliver an amphetamine-fuelled number that finds them arriving like bank robbers with guitars blazing and drums firing, and amidst a musical explosion of fireworks and ticker tape. It’s a bold, brash, and slightly abrasive introduction, and one that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. While you can discern the band’s influences (think METZ and the Pixies), the sound contained within is refreshingly original which ensures their inspirations are precisely that; a springboard towards something new. With each of these four songs having their own identity, this EP makes the perfect calling card which means that playing Force Of Habit will soon become an addiction.
