CJ Wildheart
Slots
Self Release
CJ was always the punk rock beating heart in The Wildhearts and on this album that is what really shines through. Make no mistake this is a snarling punk rock n roll monster of a record! Straight out of the gates Another Big Mistake gives the first one, two fuck you blast and the gloves come off and stay off for the duration of this collection. Slots has it’s tender moments too with CJs ode to a London punker girl on The Baddest Girl In The World and his love song to his family, You Got The Best Of Me both shining examples of touching songwriting albeit through his jagged shit kicking lens. In The City is the best song Rancid never wrote and title track, Slots possesses a Motorhead-esque British force that will surely get those heads banging. I Don’t Know What It Is, is the very definition of a UK punk ripper and sees this collection out in style. As the Poltergeist sample at the end of Bent says, βnow this house is clean.β and CJ Wildheart has kicked out a highly compelling set of incendiary jams. He says on The Kids that, βthe kids are better than you,β but on this evidence experience goes a hell of a long way.
