Clan of Xymox
Blood of Christ EP
Metropolis Records
Get your glad rags on fellow Goths β weβre off to the disco. Please ignore the name of opening track βBlood of Christβ for a second. Because despite its name sounding like something you heard every Sunday during your indoctrinated upbringing (bit of a trauma dump there -soz), the song itself is a massive synth fuelled, 80s electronic dance floor filler for those who like a steady groove to sway to. Weβre talking a proper βFade to Greyβ by Visage vibe here. Second track βYouβre the Oneβ is similarly atmospheric. Itβs a pressure cooker of spellbinding musical layers and deep dark vocals that arenβt monotone but certainly arenβt Mariah Carey in range. Which makes the whole song an intriguing blend of lyrics Peter Steele would approve of carried by crescendos of keys. Donβt fret friends β the lights arenβt going on just yet. Thereβs twelve remixes of these two tracks to enjoy too, so you can dance the night away to Clan of Xymox.
