Dark Divine

Deadly Fun (Deluxe) – Thriller Records

Track titles like ‘Terrifier’, ‘Grave Digger’, ‘Burn The Witch’ and ‘Dancing Dead’ are gonna mean Devo is in debt. How so? Well, she’s got a bet on with her builders that she can stay in shorts until October. And frankly, these songs are so Hallowe’eny in title, spirit and vibe that breaking out the full-length black regalia is now inevitable. Dark Divine mix up the vocal range from soft and peaceful, through to growling and screeching, right the way up to all out war. The Florida band love a synth and a pulverising beat. ‘Deadly Fun’ is a nu metal screamathon with hardcore, hardest of hard rock, and a spot of post-apocalyptic chaos thrown in. Dark Divine have something of the Fever 333 about them, although they even manage to make them sound tame to be fair. Some of ‘Deadly Fun’s’ songs move you physically; they’re like having a firework lit underneath you. Others are emotionally moving. This is an album that hits so hard you’ll see stars.
