Orange Goblin
Science (Not) Fiction
Peaceville
‘The Fire At The Centre Of The Earth Is Mine’ comes galloping into view, and it’s very clear from the get-go this is UK metal at its finest, much in the same way Green Lung caught our attention last year; this has Britain written prominently all over it, it couldn’t have come from anywhere else. (Not) Rocket Science is a tremendous headbanging slice of fists in the air roar-along fodder. ‘Ascend The Negative’ has a fantastic Sabbath vibe going on. The production is warm and crisp, and the tones are vintage in feel but modern in clarity. The style switch-ups continue song to song, meaning this album is smooth from ‘False Hope Diet’s slightly tripped-out swing to ‘Cemetery Rats’ space rock intro into full-on Motorhead-esque pedal to the metal. ‘Gemini (Twins Of Evil)’ is divine once again, conjuring images of the festival headbanging that will surely come its way soon. The grand finale, ‘End Of Transmission’, floats in orbit before zooming off into space, leaving us on terra firma, watching Orange Goblin again take off into the stratosphere.
