Corey Taylor
CMF2 – Decibel Cooper / BMG
Putting yourself out there in the most exposed way is something Corey Taylor has never shied away from. He is an honest man and that’s what comes through most powerfully on this extremely eclectic work. It’s like a personal thread of music history reimagined. You get everything from full blast near Slipknot to stripped back acoustic. In some ways it shouldn’t work, a lesser mortal certainly couldn’t pull it off, but Taylor does. The switching up of tempo and mood is actually rather refreshing. It’s like here are some songs, listen to them – and listen you do. It’s a magnificent vehicle to show off what a masterful vocalist Corey Taylor is too. Sure he can do the throaty stuff in memorable fashion. But that’s just the tip of a Titanic threatening iceberg. Hard rock? Yep, got that covered. Softer clean (almost country) acoustic heartstring tugging? Yep, that too. It’s all there. He’s a caged tiger one minute and a cuddly pussycat the next. It’s emotion served on a platter. The music is pretty timeless too with an obvious dose of inspiration coming from more youthful times. ‘We Are The Rest’ springs to mind here, a snarling rock anthem if ever there was one. Lyrically personal and musically stunning CMF2 will rock your world.
