Review: Riskee And The Ridicule – Platinum Statue

Riskee And The Ridicule

Platinum Statue – Ring Of Fire Records

Their first album release in four years, those familiar with Riskee And The Ridicule’s previous work will know this album is different from what has come before it. Taking a different approach to the subject matter and looking more ‘inwardly’ as they have described it, These guys have perfected their craft and manage to blend grime, punk and metal together seamlessly creating a sound that’s undeniably their own. Switching between rap, melodic and screamo vocals and changing up the pace and tone, each song holds a different emotion and has a different story to convey. Their first single release from the album ‘My Name’ right off the bat doesn’t mess around straight down to business calling out keyboard warriors, the mainstream media and flying the flag for underground music. Frontman Scott Picking aka Riskee has an amazing ability to switch from singing to punch you in the face fiery aggressive rap, both of which he is known and loved for. ‘Loser’ has a softer and slightly pop-punk vibe to it which we were not expecting but is yet another string they can add to their bow. ‘Obsession’ is one of the more catchy songs on the album and gives Riskee’s singing voice more time to shine. ‘Giving Up’ is about feeling depressed and hopeless which starts off slow and then throws itself into a higher energy performance. The guitar work really shines on this track. Other stand-out tracks include ‘Dead Soon’ and ‘Dead Weight’ where you can literally feel the passion behind the words pouring out of your speakers. If you aren’t familiar with Riskee And The Ridicule yet this is your sign to check them out. They’re are ones to watch.
