There’s something engaging about Skating Polly’s stripped back sound that seems to reach out in a friendly manner. The sweet vocals have a cutting edge that oozes an inner strength. The song writing isn’t frivolous, every note is there doing a job. Chaos County Line is the three piece’s most polished work to date but there’s no loss of that earthy connection fans love. This is simply a collection of songs that rock out. You can imagine them being played as much at a beach party as you can on a big stage. It’s less garage music, more an open air sound with a personal vibe. The trademark harmonies have been taken to a new level. They highlight the maturing of a band that has been knocking on the door of greatness for way too long. In places the pitch and tone is exquisite, tempered with a strong understated use of instruments. Maybe now with this wonderful work Skating Polly will get the wider recognition they so richly deserve.
