The Kut
Grit – Criminal Records
To say a project like The Kut is the brainchild of song writer Maha is to undersell its importance as a personal outlet for creativity. This second full album is packed with a whole raft of emotion set to some progressively penned scores. Always at the heart of things is the guitar giving each song drive and direction. There are nods towards classic rock, punk and even pop as the record changes gear taking you from the near Sheryl Crow of ‘Brother’ to the ballsy ‘And 1 More’. Lyrically it’s an intimate album that sees Maha open up on subjects that many will identify with. It’s a collection that charts the progress made so far, and hints at what’s to come. The Kut is unusual in that it is a collective of musicians with Maha the one constant. It’s a family in a way, and it works well. Those familiar with the band will love hearing each new tune in a live environment. Those new to the band will find it hard not to be drawn in. Being a musician today is a tough ask. You need real grit to succeed, so this really is an apt a title as you can have. It’s a hat that fits The Kut well.
