Midwich Cuckoos

Glory EP – Self Released

Filling a nice slot that straddles rock and punk are London sextet Midwich Cuckoos. Their latest EP shows an experimental flair tempered by a need to produce high quality and addictively listenable songs. The sheer size of the group means the sound will always be full but crucially it’s never cluttered. In fact quite amazingly you get an almost minimalist vibe on the Glory EP. Musicianship is terrific with high tempo sections coming across tight and clear. It’s the vocals that make the biggest impact though.  Tanzy Velayne has the kind of power, clarity and control that would be at home at any level. Her voice proves to be extremely versatile too, sounding equally at home in pure clean form or with quite a large amount of fry added. The Glory EP is a seriously impressive piece of work that just has you begging for a full album.
