Live Review: Nova Twins/Cherym

Nova Twins/Cherym

Rescue Rooms, Nottingham – 10/2/2022

They’d only just flown in from Derry for this show but Cherym play a blinder opening for the Nova Twins. Sweet melodies are given clout thanks to some neat guitar licks and dynamic bass work. Drums are centre stage and forward which is great to see. They sound huge too, carving are the frame on which hangs some finely penned songs. This is how music should be, and how a support act should be treated. The trio play their hearts out with big smiles all around and the Rescue Rooms is near full already cheering them on. Three girls from Ireland just won a lot more fans. They deserve every one of them.

It’s not often even a sell out crowd like tonight’s creates ‘that’ kind of buzz. Everyone in the room cannot wait to see the Nova Twins hit the stage. When they do the roof comes off. Georgia South is one of the best bass players in the UK right now. She has to be one of the most original exponents of rhythm globally if we’re being honest. This diminutive pioneer of groove is on fire in Nottingham and the heat she creates is a big part of why the Londoners are going stratospheric right now. Fanning those flames is partner in grime Amy Love. The ying to South’s yang Love holds the crowd in the palm of her hands from first note until last. Her vocals are strong and clear showing an impressive range.  Her guitar work neat with memorable flair. With just one full album out and one due the set is already full of bangers. That alone must bode well for the dynamic duo. Writing talent this good is rare. Tonight the Nova Twins took Nottingham by storm. World domination may well be on the cards.
