Insomnium
Argent Moon EP – Century Media
Everything starts so nicely. Pleasant acoustic guitars. Here come the drums. Still sweet and steady. Nothing to see here. Insomnium are treating us with care. Bit more guitar. A cinematic experience, painting a picture unique to every listener’s mind’s eye. Aaaaaaand then the vocals drop. Penetrating. Questioning. Making us look within ourselves while the music plays around the outside. And that’s just opening track ‘The Conjurer’. Three more melancholic, yet uplifting, tracks follow. The tunes are gorgeous and lush. They wrap themselves around the listener and cocoon us with their carefully composed goodness. It’s the lyrics and their delivery that bring a chill and sense of unease – which is tough to shake off. ‘Argent Moon EP’ has only four tracks but makes a massive impact.
