Listen To The Mad

Banana Castle Records

There was a time when music was joyously trippy, a reflection of less complicated times. Healthy Junkies have managed to recreate a modern version on this enigmatic album that is like a walk through the best of music history. You’ve got the flower power vocals of the 60s, the punk attitude of the 70s and the guitar sound of the 80s. Add to that a grunge vibe and bang up to date writing and the result is something of beauty. Nina Courson is possibly the only singer on the planet that could make these songs so distinctive. She has such an unforgettable tone and timbre which sits perfectly in harmony with the music. ‘Listen To The Mad’ is a massive stride forward in every department for Healthy Junkies. The songs are superb with a retro feel in the production that gives the record warmth and richness. The guitar work is well nuanced by Phil Honey-Jones who brings his unique playing style to the fore in just the right places. Dave Whitmore (bass) and David Gaut (drums) are power houses in the rhythm section. Released as we enter winter this will bring a dose of summer sun to your ears – listen to the mad, listen to the brilliant more like!
