Raven Numan – My Reflection

Stepping out from under the considerable shadow of her father Gary this is quite some statement of intent from Raven Numan. A song full of synth pop subtlety blended with ethereal gothic overtones it is as delicate as fine lace and powerful in the same way nature itself is. There’s a counter balance between the dark vibes given off in the music and the points of light you get from the vocal pitch. This is an exquisite entrance to what could be a glittering career.

Fleisch – Workout

Industrial rockers Fleisch really have hit the nail on the head with ‘Workout’. It has a lovely synth beat that alternative clubbers will go nuts to. This is anthemic in every way. Beautifully crafted keys stand together with edgy guitar work and a relentlessly beaten out rhythm. There’s a nod to 80s rock and the early industrial scene too. Is it too much to ask for an actual workout video to accompany the best song yet from this fine band? That would just work on so many levels!

Slaughter To Prevail – Conflict

Well this is a blast! ‘Conflict’ is a mosher’s dream with a tornado of an intro and beats throughout so heavy they feel like your head will explode. The masked Russians of Slaughter To Prevail, now residing in the US (probably for very good reason) have never shirked from delivering the goods but this is so good for other reasons too. The music is precise and tighter than ever. And the production is equally sharp. This is a cracker.

Brave Liaison – Swallowed

If you like your rock music melodic but without pomp or feeling like it’s from a bygone era then Brave Liaison should be right up your street. Latest single ‘Swallowed’ shows many other artists a clean pair of heels in terms of song writing nous. It has a light feel to it with catchy hooks and clever guitar work. It proves that you don’t need to go berserk to create great songs or be memorable. Brave Liaison have again shown there is another way to rock out.

Born Of Osiris – A Mind Short Circuiting

Always willing to take the braver path Born Of Osiris have smashed it again with another dose of progressive (and cerebral) metalcore. There’s all sorts on here that will have fans and newcomers alike dropping their collective jaws. Sweet timing changes, a willingness to mix in a splendid trap ending and the most brutal but crisp vocals all make ‘A Mind Short Circuiting’ is more of a description of its effect than they may have intended. Beautifully brutal.
