Beyond Salvation
The Final Nail
Rebirth Records
If ever proof were needed that tough times inspire equally sinewy art, look no further than Beyond Salvation. Born beneath Manchester skies in 2013, this quartet have left a tantalising trail of singles and EP’s, each refining and honing their sound, and it comes to fruition on their long overdue debut album, ‘The Final Nail’. Like the gates of hell slowly opening to reveal unspeakable horrors, ‘Regresus’ is a brief prelude which introduces themes that will echo throughout this LP, and from herein it’s a bare-knuckle fight of an album, the listener being pummelled beneath a relentless rain of blows. Beyond Salvation are unashamedly thrash and specialise in a twin guitar attack, but they are far from one-dimensional, and there’s plenty of variety on offer in terms of tempo and time changes; ‘Cleansing’ hits turbo boost and appears to be rotating backwards, whilst ‘The Waiting’ applies the brakes to groove with that Sabbath swing. Vocalist Jon Pedley has a rasp that recalls Terror’s Scott Vogel (which is undoubtedly a good thing) and gives the album an effortless crossover appeal, and will sate anyone who likes their music with plenty of bite. Beyond Salvation are here to save heavy music, and ‘The Final Nail’ is just the beginning.
