Special Feature: Download Festival – Welcome to District X

You’ve bought a camping ticket to Download Festival, congratulations this means you will have access to District X.

It’s important to recognise that once pitched, especially if you’re arriving on the Wednesday then you will want something to do, and drink, and eat, and drink some more. Yes hanging out with your mates is a blast but the hub (almost) central to the camp sites that has food and drink vendors also has much more entertainment too. In 2025 the highlight outside of the arena for many was seeing the Vengaboys play to a rammed Doghouse, so rammed in fact that people were watching from outside. Traditionalists may have mocked but the draw was undeniable. And for 2026 the organisers have built on that success including the latest ‘Beyond The Bands’ announcement.

Tastes may vary but fun is constant so catering for the rock and metal die-hards will see the welcome return of The Boardie Takeover, a forum lead session that shows off some of the best of the UK’s underground talent, all artists that have never played Donington previously. Also making an appearance will be the mighty Electric Six. And for those of a certain age who were pop fans first then embraced heavier music later, none other than 90s boy band Five will playing to a no doubt full house.

One of the best things about District X is that it’s relatively compact and is now located on a hard standing area meaning that you won’t lose a wellie in mud even if it’s wet and very busy (this year is sold out). And you can easily drop in and out of the entertainment areas as you please with just a minute or so between them. The Doghouse is the daddy of marquees while other stages also housed in tents include The Den and the Ace Of Spades plus there’s the open air Outpost.

There are multiple DJ sets catering for all tastes and podcasts going out live but it’s not just all about music either with food demos, a chili eating competition and all manner of other entertainment including the always popular fun fair. The food stalls offer everything from traditional festival fayre to more exotic dishes. If you want to top up your supplies then the on site Co-op has a great range of food and drink while other specialist vendors will have you covered for camping and clothing needs.

Beyond The Bands has added even more this year including brand new collaborations with Final Fantasy XIV and Fourth Wing. Four Quarters Arcade Bar will be in District X South with a special selection of over 20 iconic arcade games, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Crazy Taxi and Time Crisis. Also new for this year will be The Pit, Download’s premier styling collective, who will be located in District X near the Mercian Axe brewery bar. Download will be hosting Rockschool workshops for children between the ages of 8-17. Led by professional musicians and teachers, the workshops will be fully kitted out with drums, guitars, bass, keyboards and microphones. This year will also feature a new food stage – the Hellfire Stage – dedicated to the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne.

Download Festival is a marathon not a sprint and District X isn’t simply an added attraction, it’s a vital hub that provides not just material things but also fun, memories and a sense of belonging. It has in many ways become a second arena, one which serves a chill vibe to the hardy souls that populate the camp sites. Come June, come rain or shine, it will be the most welcoming of places when you need one the most. We hope to see you there!
