Review: Lost In Hollywood – Lost In Hollywood

Lost In Hollywood

Lost In Hollywood

Arising Empire

Occasionally when reading PR blurb prior to reviewing, something sticks out. Describing Lost In Hollywood’s appearance as β€œ…echoes of desert highways, faded billboards, and the myth of Hollywood after dark”, and immediately, their self-titled sophomore became the soundtrack to a jaded journey down a dusty highway in a beat-up Buick; a tableau of a broken American dream that will always be just out of reach. Yes, that sounds unnecessarily-profound, but it’s amazing what some words cobbled together can do, right? Suffice to assume that the band themselves were not intending that, but, regardless, it is not to the album’s detriment. β€˜Lost In Hollywood’ is a tremendous collection of modern metal songs that pulse with vim and verve. Relatable to the core with themes of overcoming adversity, there is truly something for everyone’s palate.  If you like some disgusting heaviness, then β€œThe Art Of Being Torn Out” will satisfy, whilst the more melodically-inclined will marvel at the big choruses on β€œGhost In The Water” and the vibe-heavy β€œThe Fire”. In a similar vein to the latter, though, is the album’s gem in β€œLike A River”. Synth-laden and groovy, the song builds to a wonderful crescendo in its chorus and, in doing so, determinedly lodges itself into your saved playlist. Not content with being the album’s highlight, the addition Of Virtue’s guest appearance here makes for a complementary addition to Amon Garrasi’s vocals, and so a fine demonstration in how to make a collaboration. Needless to say, but β€˜Lost In Hollywood’ should continue moving the band on an upward trajectory towards the genre’s summit. A terrific slab of melodic metal  – expect many more festival appearances from these gents.
