Molly Vulpyne Band
Houndstooth And The Hum
FOAD Musick
Sitting on the cusp of punk, grunge and alt pop Molly Vulpynes Band have been making a lot of fans since their inception. This latest release shows why while at the same time reveals a group that aren’t afraid to push forward. Of course central to everything is Molly Vulpyne but first we need to give a shout out to ‘the band’ for their being so much more than just players. Their musicianship has real personality, real depth and shines in its own right. The song writing is adventurous with obvious roots to the Irish music scene (Think more Cranberries than Corrs here). Over the decades Ireland has produced acts that have a certain vibe, not to mention a willingness to be uncompromisingly outspoken and Vulpyne fits that description perfectly. She says (sings) what she thinks, and she’s not wrong. While the rasp in her voice sits really well in the mix it’s the purer, cleaner moments that you get to hear just what a wonderful vocalist she is. This really comes to the fore on ‘14’ and the beginning ‘Ripe’ both slower paced moments. The rockier stuff hits hard with some nice hooks and dynamics. Look out for an unusual and quite brilliantly performed ending to the album too. Like all great records the ‘Houndstooth And The Hum’ takes it’s pound of flesh and beats you like a drum.
