We Mean It, Man!

Casa Gogol

Gogol Bordello, the globe trotting chaos collective born on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 1999, are back with We Mean It, Man! A 12?track adrenaline shot that smashes punk, gypsy music, hardcore, and techno into one gloriously unhinged package. Teaming up with producers Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amyl & The Sniffers, IDLES) and Adam “Atom” Greenspan, the band sounds more fired up than ever. The album kicks off with the title track, a wild, hypnotic collision of distortion, techno pulses, and punk ferocity. Vocals swing from guttural growls to robotic autotune to a chant along chorus that lodges itself in your brain instantly. True to their punk roots, the lyrics punch at socio economic themes, but the mood stays defiantly upbeat, more a rallying cry than a doom spiral. Highlights include the riotous ‘No Time For Idiots’, armed with a chorus built for shouting back at the world, plus the singles ‘Hater Liquidator’ and ‘Ignition’, each bringing its own flavour but sharing a dance?floor?ready backbone. Guest features add extra colour, with Grace Bergere on ‘Boiling Point’ and Puzzled Panther on the globe spanning ‘Boyarka to Boyaca’. The album closes on a very powerful note with ‘Solidarity’, a pro Ukraine update of their 2023 cover of the Angelic Upstarts classic, this time featuring Bernard Sumner (New Order, Joy Division). Launay’s production leans harder into techno and hardcore textures, giving the band a fresh edge without losing their trademark rawness. We Mean It, Man! certainly feels like Gogol Bordello doing what they do best. A band evolving without ever diluting their identity, ensuring and maintaining the hallmarks that their fans love. It’s raw, it’s punchy, it’s joyously chaotic, and unmistakably their own.
