Hail
Forevermore (EP)
Self-Release
There’s a bright, bubblegum view of love that’s expressed in every song in the Top 40, and then there’s the darker (and far more interesting) kind; the pain of unrequited love and the aching that bleeds within, and it is into this that Hail’s debut EP taps. Featuring six symphonic songs that smoulder with sensuality, Forevermore tells of star-crossed lovers and the devotion which dare not speak its name. Set against a backdrop of goth-inspired metal, Hail create tracks that are richly textured, painted with glacial synths and razor-sharp guitars that slice the canvas like a reaper’s scythe. These songs could have come from the pen of Charlotte Brontë; they are equally evocative and will fill your head with visions of illicit meetings beneath moonlit skies. Hail from a tight unit, but special mention must go to the operatic singer whose voice becomes an instrument in itself, reaching glass-shattering highs and loquacious lows, all whilst delivering thought-provoking lyrics that cut to the quick of human existence. It adds an extra dimension to an already multifaceted affair and ensures the likes of ‘Fallen Angel’ shine their dark light in every direction. An assured debut and one that suggests Hail are built for the long haul, possibly Forever More.
