Beans on Toast
Kill Them With Kindness
BOTMusic
Acoustic guitar wielding Beans on Toast has a way with words. A laugh out loud, shed a tear skill of being able to tell happy stories and harsh truths, and hit home with every single lyric. Oh, and in this album he’s got a band backing him up as well, which further enhances the immersive experience of Beans’ honesty blended with hilarity. Topics tackled in ‘Kill Them With Kindness’s’ tracks range from sobering (‘Gods, Children and Robots’), tequila trauma (‘That’s Why I Don’t Drink Tequila Anymore’), uncomplicatedly caring advice (‘The Great North Road’) and a cat (‘Our Cat’). Yep, that’s right Cannibal Corpse fans – a kitty cat. And if that little tune doesn’t put a smile on yer hammer smashed face, we’re all doomed. The gorgeous, life-affirming story Beans sings in ‘The Glastonbury Oak’ is like a lullaby for adults – so soothing throughout its four-and-a-half minutes. Like the definition of a good book, ‘Kill Them With Kindness’ is impossible to put down (well, stop listening to in this case) yet you don’t want it to end. Although you may be tempted to skip past/be sick during ‘Happy Birthday Baby’ – and fair play to your relationship if you’re not. This bitch of a world putting out your light? Let Beans on Toast reignite it.
