Review: Blackbriar – A Thousand Little Deaths

A Thousand Little Deaths

Nuclear Blast Records

Laying the foundations is so important for any act and Blackbriar have wisely been building, quietly at first, then loudly, since 2012. That makes them a solidly reliable band. What sets them apart is their ability to story tell, their wonderful soundscapes and singer Zora Cock’s frankly sensational voice. Latest offering ‘A Thousand Little Deaths’ sees the Dutch six piece truly come of age. With themes of love, loss and death perfectly suited to the symphonic nature of the writing every song hits the spot. There’s a lovely delicate layering on the production which gives every instrument breathing space, and of course the cherry on the top, those beautiful, soulful vocals. This is less a step forward and more a giant leap. Blackbriar just levelled up.
