Froglord
Metamorphosis
Self-Released
Froglord the band are back with another episode of the story of The Froglord, the main protagonist in a wild eco- conscious tale. This volume as I understand is about how the mystic toad metemorphosised into the swamp guardian we know and love as Froglord. Of course this is told via the media of swampy vintage doom metal and wildly theatrical vocals. Opener Collision sounds like Neil Fallon guesting on a Down record for more part which is obviously a very good thing then we have a deathly vocal interlude which is feel signifies another character in the story. It’s all very good fun and we’re only one track in! Elsewhere, Follow The Star is straight up Sabbath worship with a full bodied roar and Herman, an ode to the pre Froglord mystic toad incarnation employs blues harmonica to great effect. Cryptids sees the band in up tempo snarling punky mode and a surprise cover of Aerosmith’s Sweet Emotion sees the album out less as a part of the story and more of a swamp side vibe. This is a thoroughly entertaining new volume of the Froglord saga and if you don’t know it, get yourself over to their Bandcamp where you can buy the whole saga to date. Welcome to the swamp my friends, you have some catching up to do!
