Teen Mortgage
Devil Ultrasonic Dream
Roadrunner
There are rare times in your life when you’ll hear something for the first time and you’ll instantly think, yeah, that’s going to be huge. Sometimes you can be wrong but we don’t think this is one of those times. Teen Mortgage are about to release an album that is potentially 11 hit singles. From the titular opener Devil Ultrasonic Dream, with it’s Ramones meets very early Guns and Roses vitriol to incredible lead track Box that has hooks so strong, regardless of whether you know the words or not, you’ll be singing along to long after it’s three minute duration. Teen Mortgage have a keen ear for a hook in the same way Weezer do and imagine if way back in the day someone handed you a cassette of Weezer for the first time before they were famous, this really is that good! Personal Hell sounds like the soundtrack to the best backyard skate jam ever as does Disappear, hell, it all does! But it’s shot through with an almost Beatles-esque pop sensibility that shines without sheen. The recording is satisfyingly lo-fi and astonishingly, this band is a two piece who got their name from a Banksy piece, they literally couldn’t be any cooler…oh and their artwork references Raymond Pettibon, yes that’s even cooler (Google him). The band have recently been supporting Smashing Pumpkins and Death From Above 1979 and rightly so. Put simply this album is so good we had to drop everything and write this review before someone else did, We’re probably late but that’s how compelling they are. Buy on sight! There are zero tracks on here that won’t work as your next summer anthems.
