Review: Sypha – Borderland

Sypha

Borderland

Self release

This EP is short and sweet with only three tracks but it still packs a punch. Sometimes less is more and they don’t lack on the more. As a snapshot of what this quartet from Brighton can do it’s a hell of an example. On ‘Dirty Floor’ the vocals are so melodic, clean and slick. The heavy music with such an angelic voice is a fabulous juxtaposition, with the occasional growl giving it the necessary edge.  ‘Limbo’ has a whispering intro that reminds us of Jack Off Jill. It leads you into a cacophony of sound and a maelstrom of emotion.  ‘The After Party’ is huge. The death metal elements and also waves of Static X make such a beautiful sound. Each track is a stand alone beast but it’s this finale that shows Sypha at their strongest.
